On September 20th, we left Portumna with bags so full is that the bus was about to explode. We went on a 3 hour journey which only seemed like 1 hour. When we got there, we were divided into two groups. For my group, we went to the high ropes. First, we did a short ‘obstacle course’. You had to walk across a rope that was 10 feet above the ground but thankfully we had ropes to hold onto. Then we had to walk across a log that was 20 feet above the ground but this time we had no rope to hold onto for support. The second activity was the leap of faith. You had to climb onto a podium which was roughly 15 feet high. Then you had to jump to try and hit two balls that were 5 feet away. That was tricky! Then finally that third activity was another trust activity. Four people had to climb upto a very small podium one by one. We then had to hold onto each others hands and lie backwards. That was tough!
The next day, we were up bright and early because today we went for a 20km hike. We walked up one side of the mountain and came down the other. The views were amazing and it was worth all the blood, sweat and tears. I think we all worked well as a team to get everyone up the mountain.
On the third and final day, we went to the beach to go surfing. At this stage, everyone was so tired. Most people slept on our three hour journey back to Portumna.
Reflection:
Overall, Delphi was very enjoyable. I was definitely the highlight of my first term of TY. It has set a great standard for the rest of the months to come. I think that our class has become closer and we have found out new things about others. If I heard that there was a bus going back to Delphi, I would be the first one on it! We even met other students from another school. This boosted my confidence to talk to new people and make new friends.
